The New York Daily News reported Saturday that country singer Taylor Swift has cut the red ribbon on a $4M music school in Nashville, TN.
“I’m really excited about this music education center and the fact that right now they have three different classes going on today. It’s really exciting that we can be here on a day when they’re not only unveiling it, but they’re starting to actively use it today.” Swift stated at the opening ceremony.
The Associated Press said that the center will have classroom space, a hands-on instrument room and ongoing education opportunities. Museum officials say the new center will increase educational opportunities sevenfold going forward.
Comments have been flying at the country singer’s choice to in investment, stating “This is merely today’s Taylor Swift puff piece planted by her well-paid staff of PR flacks.”
Regardless of what you think of the singer, it seems that the intentions of Swift are in the right place. Point in proof; who do you know currently investing $4 Million in a music center – let along a program, instruments, or camps. This move has placed her in the sights of people looking to throw stones and those looking to cultivate music education. We must remember that Ms. Swift has not always known how to to play the guitar or sing. She had instruction, even if elementary, at some point in her career. Therefore, there this act of mass investment and undertaking we see where she places her values. At this juncture in the music education game, all help is valued regardless of source.
